Took a long walk down the San Gabriel River from Camp Tejas yesterday. Last time I was here the water was much higher and Box crossing was underwater. I fished a few select holes, but go no bites. I saw a few other folks fishing, but not catching. A good heavy rain would be good for fishing here.

Cool pics. We could definitely use the rain.

I returned to camp Tejas yesterday to try again on the San Gabriel river. I started with a white road runner jig head and pearl chartreuse curly tail grub. I managed to catch a personal record smallest white bass ever. The wind was blowing the lake back up into the mouth of the river channel so I decided to switch to a darker jig for the murky water. I tied on an 1/8 oz road runner with bright red head and a Bobby Garland StrollR grub in black and chartreuse. I'm thinking these colors have got to be the most unnatural colors I could choose but very visible and with double vibration from the spinner and the grub tail. First cast I caught a nice keeper channel cat and then proceeded to catch several small crappie before losing my jig. I tied on another red, black, and chartreuse jig and once again catch a flat head catfish on the first cast. I am definitely a believer that these Bobby Garland StrollR crappie grubs catch fish. I continued to catch a few more little crappie until sunset. I ended the day with a big one that got away. A very largemouth bass inhaled my jig a few feet from the bank and then spit it back at me. Its hard to get a good hook set on a big bass using a crappie jig and 6# test line on an ultralight spinning rig. I'll get em next time.

Thanks for the post. Got to love fishing crappie jigs. You never know what you're going to catch.
