Thinking about buying a used 2014 boat with a Yamaha HPDI 2 stroke. Yamaha seems to be phasing out the two stroke motor, so I am concerned about the availability of parts for future repairs. Thoughts?

I have been concerned about the industry phasing out two strokes since 1990, I guess there are still folks (like me) that want them, so they still make them...the two strokes are just too easy...little maintenance to worry with...just run them at wide open throttle as much as possible...and it takes less motor to get better performance, compared to a four stroke....yea, the fours are quiet, but I can�t hear them either way! So, now, what was your question?

would bet that Yamaha will have parts available long after you have any need for them...

if you are buying a hpdi be prepared to spend about 400.00 a year on servicing all the filters. most failures on those motors are lean fuel conditions by the time they are running crappy the damage has been done. they are good motors as long as they are maintained.

I have a 2007 Yamaha two-stoke motor and haven't had problems finding parts. Luckily, though, I haven't needed many. I replaced the impeller last year for good measure (only to see once I got to it that it didn't even need it) and got it online. No problem getting the water-separating fuel filter, either (and obvious things like spark plugs and gear oil).

You wont have a problem getting parts for that motor for a long time.

HPDI...... go ahead and buy a new power head now.

Only for the guys that don�t follow the service schedule. Cost 476$ per year to change all 7 filters and 650$ every 200 hours for high pressure fuel pump rebuild. Most people never do this which causes the fuel issues and toast the power head.

Where do they service all 7 for 476?
