New the forum and recently started fishing again from a 20-year hiatus.

Heading out to Inks Lake State Park this week to camp, hike, bike, and fish. Any tips for pier/bank fishing at Inks? I have a spin cast and son has a bait cast, if it matters to the discussion.

Consider me new to fishing since it's been so long.

Have camped Inks many times, one of our favorites. Once you go in take a left up into the tent camping area, there is a trail head that will take you up over some granite rock then down the backs side to the water. Fairly deep but lots of large rock transitioning up into the shallow little coves that are gravel bottom.

I would throw some sort of creature baits that resemble craws slow across some of those ledges.

This is where I normally fish when we camp. I've also had good luck fishing for cats using nightcrawlers.

Thanks for the replies! We will have to check out that area.

Any tips on bait or lures?

Don't forget the north fishing pier. It has been fishing well. The gravel beds were recently raked and new brushpiles have been put in under the pier and two areas coming off the pier (see map at pier). Also might want to try the south pier which has been fitted with underwater green lights that attract baitfish and predators. Stripers and hybrids get in from Lake Buchanan and you might be lucky to get one at the south pier.

Here are other details:
