About to finally buy a on board charger my starting battery is right up against the fuel tank and in a vented Attwood battery box. Is is okay to charge with the lid on since vented?

My batteries are not in boxes and in close proximity to the fuel tank. I have never had any issues.

You certainly want to make sure that you do not smell any gas odor in that area that might indicate a leak.
