Heard of some guys catching them on topwaters, and had a fish eat my sq bill on top of the water. Just curious when y’all pick the topwaters back up ?

I'm on the gulf coast below Houston, but the bass have been on topwater flies for a week or so. Same principle as a topwater lure.

The spawn appears to be over here, just. Water temperature must be about 70. These deer hair divers bubble on movement and dive down a few inches when stripped. I caught fish all yesterday morning on them.

Last two years I have started when water temps hit the 50s.

Well, I'm not a pro fisherman yet but if one ate my SB off the top, I think that would be a good clue to give TW a shot! wink

Normally I start throwing a TW with a lot of confidence at the tail end of the spawn. This normally correlates with the water temp being in the low to mid-70's. Several things factor into this decision however. Water clarity, cover, conditions of the day all play major roles on my decision to throw a TW plug. That's the cool thing about bass fishing. There are no rules and what worked yesterday may go ignored the next day.

I was his fishing partner this tournament and we couldn’t catch a fish over 2 1/2 pounds to save our life after finding tons of 3 & 4 pounders in practice. Of course in the last 10 minutes a 4 pounder ate a squarebill on top which was too late to try and catch some more on topwater..

Thanking the lord for another day on the water

Caught one last month on a frog in low 40's water in De. Was only 2' deep but she hammered it.
