Man, I haven't seen one of those nests in many years. Used to get a good laugh out of people fishing and not paying attention to the nests. They'd bump into one and get swarmed instantly. Saw a lot of folks jump in the lake in Williams Creek, which was loaded with those nests. Thank goodness they're not Yellow Jackets!

Great....I'll have a hard enough time watching out for the swarm of fisherman fishing what Hard Workin Harold calls the bent pole pattern!

I have been seeing a bunch of those again in the flooded willows this year. If you guys would have said birch that would have been me freaking out back in the day. Got hung on a stump and did not notice the hollowed out tree was basically a nest inside. Pushed off of it hit another stump and the force and wind push me hard back into the hollowed out tree about the time I noticed 8000 wasps staring me in the eye. Lucky for me it was a cool morning as it only knocked about a 1000 on the front deck as I fled like a little girl. Lol. The other thing that dang near made me jump out was hugging a tree focused on a large bed fish. I kept having that weird feeling of something watching and about to get me. I kept hearing this weird clicking in my right ear that finally made me turn to see what was up to find myself face to face with a owl in the hollowed out tree. Pretty cool unless those big eyes are about to getcha.......

I was in an area on Fork many years ago and we were going really slowly and quietly through a bunch of flooded bushes trying to avoid the tons of nests around while flipping for bass. All of a sudden about 10 feet away a school of bass started chasing shad and when they did that they would literally tear through those bushes. There were a couple of nests in the line of bushes they were going through and when they were after shad they would really tear up those bushes. All of a sudden we had bees swarming everywhere. My buddy told me hold on and he started the big motor up and went tearing through that area as fast as he could get out of there leaving more bees stirred up in our wake. We were slapping around hunkered down in the boat and finally when he ended up stopping out in the middle of the lake we just turned around and stared at that cove area and started cracking up. It looked like a cloud in the cove and no telling how many nests we went through getting out of there. I think he also knocked a couple of Neutra off of there stumps also during the exit. If we had hit one of the stumps on the way out we may never have made it out alive but I still crack up thinking about it to this day.
