Thanks "Bass Buster 1". I have nearly always caught something around the launch ramp. Having just one "recommended" place to fish always helps my attitude. I sincerely appreciate it and I'm sure "I-fish" appreciated it too.

it's the suspended clay in the blackland prairie watershed that lowers aquatic production. Had a 20 ac. soil conservation lake for years and was on the quest to grow the 10 lb bass. Tough to get all the other aquatic life going in this type water.

Not so sure about this. I did a pool deck for a homeowner and their house/property sits against a 7-9 acre little lake that was intended to flood and be part of Ray Roberts. When I talked to the home owner about the lake he told me anyone could fish it because he doesn't own it the Corp folks own it. This little jewel has huge bass and crappie in it along with some very healthy grass.

I hired a fisheries biologist, stocked the lake with coppernosed bluegill and pure Florida strain bass, and did a feeding program for years. He said (and I believe him) that he clay suspension lowers light in the water column, thereby lowering phytoplankton, minnow production, aquatic plant growth and subsequently bass growth. Not saying you cant grow fish, just can't grow as many pounds per acre as an east Texas lake.

Dammit Barrett the black helicopters will be up there now! smile. Hopefully some gets caught on your motor and drops off on the flats west of wolfe.....hint hint. smile been debating moving the boat from Fork closer to Roberts. May make the move this year and need some grass to fish.

From the time the lake open till around 2007/8 fishing was execellent at Roberts. The draw down year was phenomenal for big fish. Hydrilla never really came back like it was after the draw down. Around 2008 I could not catch a big fish and the ones I caught that should have been big looked like live skeletons with a giant head. It got really tough around then and I moved my boat to Fork. Something definitely occurred around 2008. Miss the days of the giant grass flat west of wolfe. That was some fun times. For me Roberts and all the clay lakes fish shallower than lakes like fork. Even in the summer and winter. Also key areas have always held more fish.

I remember after the floods in '07 and again a few years laters during the spawn 6-8 inch yearlings were schooling by the acre when the ramps opened later that summer. Hard to believe the lake doesn't have enough fish in it. I bought my place in '07 3 miles from the ramp and remember it well. Lake was flooded for months.

Barrett's "hydrilla" was milfoil. I think he was drunk.
