So I'm putting a new console on an '87 bass buggy pontoon, it's not the original though, a previous owner converted it into a rats nest smile

So I've found the yellow/red wire coming off harness to ignition has been cut and run through a fuse block. I guess that's fine, I'm going to convert it to an inline fuse if it's necessary. I guess it certainly doesn't hurt, though I'm not sure the 32volt fuse (couldn't see any amp rating on it) is even the right size fuse.

I can only tell you what the standard wiring on almost all outboards, what you got there you got to chase it down. The yellow wire with the red tracer, runs into your controls and is connected to a micro switch (neatral safety switch) then it runs to the magnitic starter switch or selinod, l call the yellow wire/red tracer a (trigger wire)

When the neatrual saftey switch is closed, you turn the key, and the yellow/red wire triggers the starter selinod. yellow/red wire can be a ground or a positive it will work both ways

Ok, interesting...I don't have such a safety switch on this boat, it can be started in forward/reverse. Another piece to the puzzle, thanks!

That yellow/red stripe is not fused. The red power wire to the ignition switch will be fused.

Yeah that's what I'm doing this weekend, figuring out the proper method is the fun part smile

Anyone know or recommend a fuse size for the red ignition wire? 35hp merc 2 stroke is what's starting...

Thanks guys.
