I do mainly crappie fishing. I'm my boat I could tie to the pillar but now I have an sot kayak. I'm thinking anchored away cause of boat traffic and the waves but also be hard to tie off to the pillar. Looking for a quick easy way since I'll hit a lot of pillars before finding the fish normally. Any ideas? Thankyou

I was thinking about that but being lownto the water and the pilings being big be hard to do
Has to be a easy way just wondering if someone figured a easy way to do it out of a kayak

Anchoring in the water under bridges can be dangerous
--some boaters ignore the no wake zone around bridges
--there's often sunken or piled up brush that an anchor can get snagged on
--waves are amplified in bridge areas

If you can, drop a mushroom or similar styled anchor in 0-6fow, then fish the pilings you can

If you want to fish deeper, first sonar scan the area to see if there's any sunken objects that could cause an anchoring issue.
If not, drop a mushroom or similar styled anchor

I have tried looping a brush clip around the pilings, and it works OK. The loop around the piling will tend to slip down into the water.

I have used a mushroom anchor with a quick release clip and float in case of boat wakes.

Well I made a u out of a 8ft piece of pvc. Heated it up and bent it around a large tree in my yard. Then ran a rope thru it. On one end is a d style clip other end I put on not sure what to call it but madenti hold canvas down you can adjust the length of the rope. Then quick release it if necessary. Then put a pool noodle around the pvc so it won't sink below the water water line. I have about 10ft of slack line so I have extra to adjust length. I should be able to bring it around the pilings and grab the clip without having to move to grab it. When I start fishing the pilings late spring I'll test it and post the result. Thanks for the tips everyone shared

Great ideas with the pvc and float noodle.

For version 2.0 you might try PEX tubing, it's cheaper and lighter than PVC and more flexible (won't have to heat it) Found in the plumbing section of HD and Lowes.

Get a hula hoop, cut it in half, thread rope thru half, tie a knot so rope doesn't come back thru. toss it around piller, hula hoop locked against pillar, tie off on yak

if you want to, you can also cut a couple of 3-4in sections of a pool noodle to place on the opposite ends of the hula hoop so it will float

I did the pvc so it would stay around the pilings when grabbing the other end instead of chasing the other end lol. Also have one complete pool noodle on it. I want to try outriggers as well but think they would get beat up or destroyed when not if a boat comes thru not at a idle. Have it happen all the time then want to flip them off when they smile and wave at you.

I use duct tape and tape a piece of rope to the pillar pedal around it tie off and clip it to my anchor trolly. I use a section of pool noodle to keep the rope floating. This takes up very little space and fits inside my crate.

It works great for fishing the pillars. Finally tried it today. The hoop is bigger then the pillar so other end I can grab with no chasing the other end and don't have to lean to grab it. Also when not in use I can stick it in the factory rod holders behind my seat thanks for all the ideas

I know it's an old thread- just for information to readers....
We've been doing pillar fishing in 30+ fow for a few years So we got it pretty figured out:
I have a floating anchor line tied to a foam float and a large heavy clip (which comes with the line at Academy),
park kayak upwind or up current and by pillar, then throw the clip end around; usually you can get a half circle throw, use paddle to reach the float from the other side.
This is done when I use a stable wide kayak (34in width);
With narrower kayaks, I've used a bamboo stick with a hook attached to the end. I place anchor line on top of hook, and fling the clip/float around, I normally get a full circle and can grab it easily.
Bamboo stick won't sink so you won't lose it.

Anchor idea is what we orginally thought but requires heavy mushroom (5lb at least, 8lb better). but pulling that weight everytime you change pillar is not fun. Bringing anchor that heavy is also cumbersome.
