Had mine for 18 months and love it! Look at the new Xi3. 70 lbs verses Xi5 at 80. No foot pedal. And the biggie, lower priced.

I bought mine from David at Shut-Up-And-Fish more than a year ago. Went with MG because it seemed the best fit with my Lowrance electronics.
- It made my overall experience on the water WAY more productive. - ANCHOR mode is amazing, in any winds. - GO TO WAYPOINT or GO TO CURSOR saves a ton of time. - Remote operation is so good to have, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. - Like many (most) others, I never use the foot pedal because the remote works so well.
Hope this helps.

Bought both of mine used. No problems, ever. I did change to the 3 blade prop though. Much smoother operation on high speed with no lack of speed. I did that on both.

I love my Xi5. On my 2nd one because I sold the first one when I sold my old boat.
Don't forget to take a look at the LiftSaver to help address the mounting issues.

Went to the Motorguide website to check them out and I have a(?) Some of these units are listed with sonar only, some GPS only and some with both. How & why are either of these options significant if I were to purchase?

It's great for spotlock on brushpiles, docks, or submerged structure. I'm not a fan fishing bridges or timber with it but it's a game changer for what it's good at!!

How & why are either of these options significant if I were to purchase? Gps is motor guide anchor feature, called spotlock on Minn Kota. Sonar is internal sonar transducer that can be connected to a Sonar head but it is sonar only. No DI. Depsndes on what you want the motor to do or provide.

I love mine. Doubled my catch rate instantly, and it feels more like youre a backseater in your own boat since youre not having to jack with the trolling motor all the time.

Hey thank ya'll for the responses, I appreciate it. My biggest hold back is figuring out how to pay for it without my bride finding out what its gonna cost... But I think I have that covered now. I wasn't sure how well it would work under bridges, but it is what it is...

2+yrs using ours. 3 blade prop is a great upgrade. Holds great, no drift, quiet too!! Zero issues from our end. First one we bought was from TW and had some internal gps issues so we called MG and they overnighted another unit. Would definitely buy again. My

I bought mine fro a 21 foot pontoon boat last year with 80lb thrust and it holds me over the brush very well in most conditions. I may have to look into getting the three blade prop. I will also say that the liftsaver mount Blue Nitro is awesome addition and great product.

After having one I would quit fishing before I would give it up. Xi5 is the one.

Does the Xi3 have spot lock? Yes, it has the anchor feature. The Xi3 is to be MotorGuides lower end units and the Xi5 will be the higher end units.

I've had mine for a little over a year now, nothing but praise to say about it. Also will ditto going to the 3 blade prop. It's quieter, less vibration, and slightly more speed.

You got Lucky, when I picked mine up brand new the remote wouldn't work opened it up and the batteries were so corroded they looked like mold or something growing on them, took it to a Motorguide service center they cleaned out the remote and I put in fresh batteries still had to open it up at least once a trip, after 3 trips back to the shop and buying a new remote I gave up and just used the foot control the rest of the time I had it, if you go online you'll see tons of folks have the same issue, but like I said that was the only problem I had with it in 2 years was the remote

Xi5 is a great tool. I really enjoy mine over the previous Terrova, which was the original. MK's 'Spot On' should have been aptly called 'Nearly Spot On, Plus or Minus 20-50'. But it's just part of the technology maturity process like all these gadgets go thru.
As far as the MG's remote, I have no problem with it except I am so use to MK's remote I more than occasionally press the wrong button since the template is different. Also, the original remote for MK was junk also. They've since upgraded it and is real good. The MG doesn't have a display. I do miss that on MG remote but I think that is because I started with the MK remote to begin with. If it hadn't had the display, I probably wouldn't have noticed it.
As others have said, the LiftSaver is an effective accessory that will help to safely guard the Xi5 in a variety of situations. I think the LiftSaver is made for some of the MK products too.
As far as bridges go, depending on the bridge span, weather, terrain, sky cover, etc., ANY GPS TM can have difficulty under a bridge. So whether your brain prefers to use the foot or your hand, it is the same for ALL TMs, with or without GPS capability.

You guys sure cost me a bunch of money today ... New XI5 with the bells and whistles mounted on Double Time. Thank you for the responses and the help, I appreciate it. Goin in the AM to try her out, a little windy right now. Just a heads up, anyone in the Concho Valley needing anything for your boat, give Proline Trolling Motors a shot. I'm glad I did...

I bought mine used with a year of warranty left. I have had the motherboard replaced twice, Pinpoint GPS replaced once and both GPS modules replaced twice. I just had the mother board replaced for the second time and when I got to the lake I no longer have a GPS signal. Motorguide's customer service has been nothing short of amazing. My motor has been out of warranty for a year and they still sent me the mother board for free and I just had to pay labor. The motor is great when it works, but I have had really bad luck with mine. I wish MG would come out with a new model because I got a bad Xi5 and I'm sick of it being in the shop all the time.
