Caught seven little ones yesterday in my cast net... No fun
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

How can you tell the difference between that and a channel or blue. At first glance, they all look the same. Just pretend its a channel and fry it up. I don't know about anyone else, but I can easily tell the difference. They're called bullheads for a reason. Plus they have a rounded tail vs the forked tail that channels have.

Bull heads resemble tadpoles. One alternate name for them is polywogs among some other more colorful nomenclature.

Little devils will put a hurting on your finger too, stay clear of that mouth No doubt...the tip of my finger learned that real quick when I tried to remove the hook. I've caught huge flatheads and stuck my whole hands in their mouth...if a bullhead got that big you could lose a whole hand.

I catch a fair number of them in Athens when targeting sunfish. I always turn them loose. But I grew up in CO and we used to catch and eat them there and they were always good but the water was a lot colder and cleaner than the water here so that may have made a difference.

My son when he was 7-8 were out fishing and saw a bunch of little tadpoles swimming in a school in real shallow water. my son said "dad, you think one of those would live in my fish tank?"
so I walked out in the water and grabbed. they were 3/4" long bullheads. I yanked my hand back and had 4-5 of them sticking out of my palm. I then noticed they were bullheads.
We took one home and had it for 3 years before letting it go back in the pond it came from at 6" and having eaten all his aquarium fish.
