I used to live by a little 35 acre pond just chuck full of big bass. The biggest I caught in there was a 9+ but there were plenty of 8's. One year the dang thing froze all the way to the bottom. Killed most of the fish in there.
The next spring we had a spawn like I had never seen. Since there were no other bass in the vicinity the few bass that did survive spawned and spawned and there were fry everywhere with not a lot of predators to eat them. Within a few years we had bass everywhere.

I believe that the bass know how many other bass are in the vicinity, whether is be a pond, stream or cove, and spawn accordingly.

Beat me to it...if catching bed fish had a negative impact...these two lakes would be the dead sea.

Most good sight fisherman say No. I have never met a good eight fisherman that says yes. Likely there is some effect. How much it exactly effects the fishing would be hard to determine in a study. I think you put a decent sized tournament like the Big Bass Tour on Lake Conroe last week end and the weather lined up so the spawn is peaked then there has to be an effect. Likely they can negate that with stocking. There are enough fish in Conroe. If it had grass it would be as good as any lake in the sate.
