After 25 years, we broke down and bought new music stands. I literally used these old ones when I was in 7th grade. Now I get to assemble 100 new ones!

When they are done with a concert do they get to pick them up and smash them on the stage like the 80s and 90s rock bands? Makes for a heck of an ending to the show.

The base of the 25 year old stand looks like it is made better.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

The old bases were a bad design. The bolt would loosen itself and the whole stand would wobble. The new ones are welded.

Do like we did in the military. Pass one stand to each student and assemble it by the numbers. You show them step one, open the box and everyone does that step. Make it clear before you begin that no one can get ahead or behind the current step. In the time it takes you to assemble one of them you will have a room full done.

Loctite could have cured that.

It would have for sure. The company had packed the entire inside with grease though to keep the inner tube from locking up. Wouldve had to clean it all out on every stand.

Agree. Look legit. I would have Rhino Linered the old ones.

And I know who "Jeff" is.
