Hello all,

I'm not looking for GPS coordinates or anything like that. I'll be in Austin for a couple days next week and simply want to see if anyone can recommend some general areas I can try. Won't be able to take the boat so I'm limited to bank fishing. It's also March and I'm sure some fish will be bedded up. Never been to Austin before and have no idea what bodies of water I should try. Simply wanting to minimize time planning so I could actually have more time for fishing. I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks,

Serg

Barton Creek would be your best bet for bank fishing around Austin.

for Bank fishing, just fish Lady Bird Lake. It's basically the Colorado River that goes through downtown Austin. It's known for big bass. There's been a few 10+ pounders caught in the past couple weeks. There's LOTS of bank fishing spots.

Yup Lady Bird on Red Bluff Isle and also where barton creek feeds into Lady Bird are really good bank spots. Commons Ford on Lake Austin is one of my favorites just stay away during the summer.

Lady Bird Lake for sure.

You might try Onion Creek in S. Austin. It is popular enough that you have a good chance of being checked by the game warden.

Thanks to all who have given me suggestions. I've been looking on Google maps like crazy just trying to pick out spots. I like Barton creek and onion creek because they stretch so much and offer many different areas of fishing off the grid. I fish the Rio Grande a lot so I really enjoy just being out in the brush alone. However, these two creeks look to be very shallow almost anywhere on their stretch. That should be fine right?

Lady Bird... I'm not sure I have found it. Is it that large area of open water on the colorado river? I've never been to Austin so I have no clue...

Look up info on the bat tour, it's on Lady Bird, they fly out from under the bridge at dusk, millions of them. They give ya a short boat ride of the lake there's a big park there so plenty of spots to check for bank fishing. Have fun and good luck.

I think it's called town lake now. It will come up on maps as Town lake. Barton creek right their where it feeds into Town Lake is going to be really good now considering the spawn. Look up Red Bud Isle that is by the Dam between Austin and Town Lakes.

It used to be called Town Lake and is still named Town Lake on Navionics, but it was renamed to Lady Bird Lake like 5+ years ago

I'd rent a Kayak at town lake and fish anywhere in the Barton springs area.

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!
