Took the new 6wt Clearwater outfit to the San Gabe this weekend and finally broke it in. Caught one off a laydown and two off beds, which was surprising. Threw a black/white conehead streamer and killed it right in the middle of the beds...they couldn't stand it. Largest went probably 3-3.5 and it was a TON of fun on the 6wt...safe to say I'm hooked on the fly!

Welcome aboard...nice bass

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Now that you are hooked, make the addiction even worse. Get a light 2 to 3 weight rod and see the fun go up exponentially. Last summer I went out with my son in law and grandsons to fish some ponds. They started out catching bass on plastic worms. At first I was having no luck until I changed to a steelhead fly I had picked up, thinking it might work for bass. I was using a Redington Butterstick glass rod, 6'2" 2 weight, with a WF3 line. After switching flies I caught 15 bass, most in the 2 lb. range. I had a ball and really impressed my oldest grandson. Now he is ready to come with me down to the Hill Country in May and try flyfishing for himself. I live in southern Oklahoma, but fished the Gabe and Brushy Creek last September. You certainly have some nice waters in your area.
