When fishing for crappie in the spring time, which do you prefer? Fishing around rocks or grass beds? Neither, I prefer to fish tangles, brush, trees, holes in the bank for spawning crappie...caught a few the last four or five days around some grass clumps laid out over the water...post spawn, I chase them on rocks, timber. ....love fishing grass beds and weed lines if I can find the crappie in them....correct answer is...fish the crappie where ever they are and try all areas to find them...hope this helps...
