I have a 50 hp Johnson new fuel lines plugs starts up idle great reverse is strong forward throttle bogs down.

Any input appreciated

sounds like carb problem ! In reverse throttle will not open 100 % . If you gradually advance the throttle in forward ( Under load ) you will probably hit a point where RPMs will start dropping . Jets not feeding properly . Best of luck .

Exactly what Dreamin said. I had 1999 50 HP Johnson. I was trying all different kinds of things to correct the problem and ending up blowing the power head. I would absolutely not run it anymore until the carbs have been cleaned. If you restrict fuel, you also restrict oil, then you melt her down.


Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!
