An interesting situation is unfolding in the college hoops world.

The Big Twelve Player of the Year is Devonte Graham of the University of KANSAS.

The consensus National POY is Trae Young of the Univ of oklahoma.

I sure wish he had come to Kansas.

He strikes me as an outstanding young man and a talented athlete.

oh hes good, took him most of the season to start to come on. Then he is "hurt" waiting to see if we get in the tournament. what good do these guys do?
They had Durant too, what good did that do them? did they win the big 12 that year? UT is playing better with the bench guys.

I wouldnt call it a situation. It happens somewhat frequently. Trae Young will be up for national awards, so I doubt he cares about the big 12 player of the year award.

I agree with you that the one and done rule sucks (but its an NBA rule, not NCAA rule). I disagree that he was sandbagging an injury during the season to see if UT makes the tournament. That might happen with football players and meaningless bowl games, but I dont think it happens in regular season basketball games.

Apparently I am the only one that thinks it a bit strange that the best player in the country is not the best player in his own conference.

I've only watched Big12, so I can't comment on the other contenders, in my estimation Graham should be ahead of Young, not that Young isnt damn good, but hes been slumping along with his team, Graham has been phenomenal in crunch time during games and led his team to the regular season conference title, the Big12 tourney run should be fun

Its been happening for years. I get your point, and it is strange, but its the way things go. Im sure Trae Young didnt win Big 12 player of the week every week, either, but he probably should have.

Tom Brady wasnt named Patriot of the Week (and actual Team award)once this year, but Im sure he was happy to win league MVP this season (and nearly and arguable should have won Super Bowl MVP).
