Seems like every lake you fish has areas where you graph big areas of old submerged tires. Anyone ever catch any bass off of them? You would think they would hold a few fish. Especially on lakes that don't have alot of natural cover. I've tried bouncing a jig across them, dragging a C rig across them etc...just never really caught anything. Anyone else have different results?

Waste of time and should be considered litter. Send me coordinates and I will make sure they get removed.

It depends on how deep they are and if the fish are relating to that depth. If they are 30 ft deep and the fish are suspended at 10....you're spinnin your wheels.

Anyone else have different results? Yep, dropped a chatterbait on the very outside line of tires and pulled this fat girl, but I have never caught another one there again.

Yep, bass had made a bed right in the middle of the tire. It was in MN.

If they're the only cover on a slick bottom, you bet they're good. If there is good brush or stumps or rocks in the area, not so much. But I can't hardly go past a tire reef without fishing it, no matter what else is in the area.

Many of our lakes have huge river trees sitting on the lip of the channel. The key is to follow that lip watching the depth finder for humps on that lip. This is usually where the river was dredged by the farmers before the lake was impounded and the rubble pilled in short sections along that lip. River trees where this rubble was deposited are the ones you are looking for. Lake Ivie comes to mind on this particular situation. There are 6 spots on both the Concho and Colorodo Rivers where the rubble is pilled 10 ft. high on the trunks of the river trees sitting on the lip of the channel. I found these by zig-zagging between the trees where possible along the lip of the channel. In 20 ft. of water that puts a 10 ft. hump right on the edge of the channel. I have caught a fish over 10 lbs. out of the forks of the trees on each of those 6 humps.
This is also a good example of an Irregular Feature. Bass will always take up residents on such irregular features. Their escape route is only a short distance to deep water. They feed on the hump and spawn on the humps or on the forks of the river trees.

I keep reading the title as "trees" not tires and wishing this was a discussion on fishing deep flooded standing timber... I think I'm suffering from mild fishlexia.

I remember when Hanks Creek Marina sold out at Rayburn and they tore out the docks. For several months we caught a LOT of fish up to 7lbs off of the tires they left behind.

You can absolutely have a blast catching fish off of submerged tires but they aren't just always there. Several factors including depth, time of year, weather, etc play a role in all of this. The tire reefs on Cypress have been very well known for year since the lake is essentially void of cover outside of the boat houses. However, my experience is that not all of the reefs are the same but I can also tell you that in the past if you get bit on one reef, that you will most likely get bit on the others and vice versa if you don't get bit.
I use mostly a c-rig, jig and drop shot. I know a other that use crank baits that bang thru them triggering a reaction bite.
