I would love to have jury duty. In my entire life I have only gotten 2 notices. One when I was stationed in Florida. That one you had to call in the night before and they told you if your number had to report, mine didn't. The second time was when I was stationed in California. Got the notice 2 months after I had moved away. Been out of the service for years, been retired for 5. Yet, can't seem to figure out how to get called to do jury duty.

Some people never get called up. My Mom had a friend that would get called up a couple times every year.

I did learn not to show up early. Show up late like 80% of the rest. You just sit around for a couple hours. But it's my civic duty so every couple years I just smile and bare it.

I enjoy the question process. If you want to be picked, don't say much when you answer questions, and appear to be simple minded. If you appear smart, 1 of the 2 sides will dismiss you. If you appear gullible, slow, or agreeable, you will be more likely than to be picked.

Not any more. The jury list is from the Secretary of State's office. It's a combined list of voter registrations and DPS records (driver licenses, and TX ID cards).

Being registered to vote does not affect whether you end up on the list unless you also have no TX DL and no TX ID. It has been that way for years.

If you don't want to get picked act hard of hearing. Even in the waiting room ask people in charge to repeat themselves.

Yup, registered, votes, has Drivers license, owns property/home. Biggest problem I think, is that I have moved every 3-5 years of my life since I turned 17. Maybe now that I have settled down (been here 3 years) I will start getting called on.

Anyone wondering about how they pull the jury or he gets elected to show up. The clerk told us at the beginning it's pulled by either of the following registered to vote in Denton County or have a driver's license with a Denton County address

I was call last week. They asked us if we had any thoughts on the investigator. I had a bad run in with him and he had lied. The prosecutor was hollering for me to shut up,since he was the investigator in this case. They told us this much that the two people had gotten falling down drunk at a MMA event. She then came back and excused him of sexual assault since he touch her privates. I wasn't going to be a good juror on that anyway. Two adults get drunk and then get frisky them one has the other arrested. They both came from out of state.

And talking to the other people there it seems that everybody met both of those everyone there said they were registered to vote

I'm sort of selection proof for a jury. My wife is an Attorney. I know the Judges and most of the other Attorneys in town, and they know me.
I have been told that I would be good on a jury but there is no way they would put me on one of their juries.

Absolutely inspiring!!!! Everyone whines about how stupid juries are, but the same people whine about having to serve on one. I hope those of you who will do anything to get out of jury duty get royally screwed by a stupid jury one day. The defense attorney will love it. The judge, the prosecutor(s), the cops who spent hours handling cases, the witnesses who come in to testify, the families of victims,; they all appreciate your sense of civic responsibility.

I know this much. You don�t want a jury of your piers from Tarrant County deciding your future. Some scary people in that room.

Look I understand the value and necessity to our Democratic nation that citizens step up and do their civic duty and serve on juries and take it seriously and perform to the best of their abilities.

If I had been selected I would have done just that.

That being said I was more than happy that all the cases were settled. All 300 responsible citizens who showed up to do their Duty As Americans and as Texans we're allowed to spend the day as they saw fit. I get to spend the afternoon catching up on work and maybe doing a little day drinking!

So in summary yes I understand it's important. But also I'm allowed to complain about it that's my right as well.

If you think jury duty sucks try being stuck on a grand jury for 6 months.

Just based on what I've heard so far....I would vote GUILTY.

Regular jury or grand jury, I want to do it, but I am old so they say, no way. Makes no sense to me. Why is age an impediment to good judge needed for jury duty? Besides, what else have I got to do?

They told me the last time I showed up for jury duty that because of age, I would never be called again.

I've never dodged a jury summons, I've always enjoyed it.

That's interesting. The judge who did the intro at the beginning went through exemptions you could claim and one of those was if you are over the age of 70.

However he made it very clear that being over the age of 70 did not exclude you from service, it was an exemption that you could choose to exercise or not.

Another thing I found amusing was he said in English if you did not read or write or understand English you could be Exempted... but if they dont speak how would they know what he said? There was no translation verbal or written of this.

Last time I was selected in Denton County, I made it as far as the voir dire process for a drug charge case. One of the attorneys asked me a question and I told them that based on what I'd heard so far, the defendant was clearly guilty and this seemed like a big waste of time. Dismissed! The elevator ride afterward with the defendant and his family was a little awkward.

In Tarrant County I was able to sign up online. Got an email a couple of days before I wouldn't be needed. Didn't have to go downtown and it fulfilled my jury duty. Have done it twice now.

You should have used Nathan on your jury questionnaire.

However it's not that unusual.
