Does anyone on here try to catch them for purposes other than bait? I've been catching a few while bluegill fishing and they give my UL tackle a good workout.

They eat fine before the moss gets to blooming in the lakes. A little firmer fleshed than channels and blues. Taste like moss when the weather warms

We ate more of them than any fish when I was a kid because we fished stock tanks and a creek, and they were full of them. They are ok if water isn't too hot and stagnant.

Any creek or pond that has areas of thick mud will have them in that area. I've eaten them and they tasted like a channel cat with a little extra fat on it. Just don't think it's worth the effort to clean them though, not very much meat for the size.

thumb Ate them when I was a kid. We kept the bigger ones. The biggest we ever caught was in a minnow seine. It was 5 lbs. They tasted good.

The yellow bullheads are the "best." I've caught them up to 3#, and they're not bad out of good water. I've caught black and brown bullheads from mossy ponds that the neighborhood alley cats turned their noses at.

We ate a lot of them when I was a kid. I still would but don't catch them any more.

Same here! Had a little one chomp down and felt like my thumb was in vise. Hurt like hell. Crazy how powerful their bite is.

How can you tell the difference between that and a channel or blue. At first glance, they all look the same. Just pretend its a channel and fry it up.
