I always like trying different things.... So....

I know that lots of people use chicken livers for catfishing. Has anyone made catfish bait with the base as chicken gizzards? They are a bit tougher than livers. I think I may try mixing up a batch with garlic, salt and oil, then see what happens. After a trip or two all I would be out is less than $5 bucks if it is a bust. For a added touch I think that I will let them set out in a zip-lock for a day or two before using them.

What is your thought?

Livers are a lot bloodier than gizzards which is why I think they are used more. Beef liver yields the same results as chicken liver but is very tough compared to chicken liver so that may be an alternative for you. Your seasoning sounds great to me.

I use skin on chicken thighs. Cheap and very effective for channels and blues.

Chicken livers are a bait often misunderstood. A lot of times Guys bait the hook wrong by trying to running the hook through the liver too many times. Quality of the liver is first. Tyson livers are decent. They are thick in respect to livers. Unfortunately that's not what your looking for in livers. I find Asian market livers to have a higher fat content. That's what keeps them in the hook in longer cast and when fish try to suck them off the hook. Hooked once or twice through the fatty side dependant on size of the liver being used is enough. Also keep an eye out for the hearts in the liver packs as they will be your main producers and will stay on the hook fish after fish.

If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

Gizzards stay on the hook.

Gauze or panty hose will keep them on the hook.

On average, your heart beats 100,000 times a day. One day, one of those heartbeats will be your last. Then what?

The answer is found in Jesus Christ who said "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10

I've always had great luck on Catawba worms or charlie B.

Use Charlie B on a number 8 treble hook with a slip bobber setup in 4-8 ft of water in the spring. Catawba worms are God's gift to cat fishing. They don't come off the hook and can be used at any depth. Charlie is best for channels.

Stubbys on a slip cork in shallow water right now will get the job done

Haven't seen Catawba worms in years.

peep I never caught any fish on gizzards. I have caught a few on chicken hearts, chicken skin, and chicken livers, and chicken breast. Good luck.

Old, on-sale chicken breast. Cubed up into 1" pieces, mixed with garlic salt and strawberry Jello. Those blues love it.

Yes, Brazos is my real name.

Have an uncle that lives on about 2,000 acres in Panola County. His property is covered up in Cataulpa trees. We can go out there almost any morning in the late spring and pick all you want when they are coming down the trunks. Literally, I have 30 bags in my freezer. Blanched and ready to go.

What do you mean you haven't seen them in years?
