I always used a bobber, both round and stick for sunfish. The other day out of frustration I decided to change things up and fish like I would for a bass. Sure enough the bites came in. Caught a sunfish off the bottom dragging my grub slowly. Used a piece of Gulp redworm and 1 inch grub. Way different using lures versus the more passive approach with bobbers.

I fish off the bottom for sunfish about 90 percent of the time. I usually use live worms 95 percent of the time. I only use a float if the bottom conditions are rough and have a lot of snags. thumb

When I started targeting sunfish six years ago I was using slip bobbers a lot. I have since switched to using spinning lures and soft plastics on ultralight tackle. I am also learning to use a fly rod which I love. I target several species of fish and sunfish are my favorite. woot

I love a slip bobber and still use them while fishing for Channel Cat's.

I like straight lining and bottom fishing now mostly. Use floats when entertaining grandkids. They
still like to watch the bobber.

No bobber or weight for me just the hook and worm.
