looking to head over to wright patman lake for some early spawn crappie.anyone tried it lately or is it a little early.I see the lake is a little over full and wander if all this rain may have an effect on the spawn.

I�m gonna say it�s too early. That area got a lot of cold rain, and the last time I was down there fishing a creek the crappie weren�t even close to ready.

They are moving up on lakes in that area. I would go scout the spawning grounds. Seeing reports of dark males up shallow out that way.

Go fish below the dam spillway, get out of the main channel on the first cut back to the left...crappie will e be thick in there...anytime they are releasing heavy water...good fishing for a week to ten days...that is the first place I ever caught a crappieover 54 years ago...when the water is up, limits are easy.

Hello crapicat I know the place well I grew up in Texarkana before there was a lake there.My dad used to take fishing below the flood gates when there was a boat rental place there that was 65 years ago but we caught a lot of crappie in that cove.It is so grown up now but in march or april you can catch some huge crappie in the bruse along the river bank if the gates are open.

The lake came up 11� in a week. I�d wait for things to settle out.

I just noticed that the lake is 14 foot high. I would wait a while for it to settle.

Make that 15.42 ft high

That lake fills up fast, I�ve seen it 25-29� high on several occasions in the past.

With the lake as high as it is and still rising you can basically kiss the spawn good bye. It will be May before they get it back down. Like they posted above, go fish the spillway. Be your best bet.... it will be good until after the spawn. Caught my biggest crappie down there also.

Dont look now, but it�s basically march...I spent a lot of time down there as a youngster...had a cousin that would fly model airplanes...I would have them drop me off, so I could fish while they were wastin money.

Great Uncle Clarence would take the boat down there so we could get away from the crappie house and fish the willows (or more correctly, fight the snakes for the crappie!)

I have not fished Patman since December. Been doing really good on LOP. Planning on trying to get out below spillway this weekend.

I guess the winter thing on LOP is about over?
