I'm taking my son and dad to Whitney this weekend for a little R&R. I'm sure the recent rains will make things tough. Any tips/suggestions on where to start would be appreciated (we're thinking starting off on north end of lake). Also, can anyone suggest a nice protected north end ramp (forecasted winds out of south 10-20 mph) with decent lodging?

Thanks in advance

I just fished this past weekend and the rain did not make that much of a difference. Anyway, read the post I made titled 'Lake worth fishing report", though I know you are not going to Lake Worth, I bet the pattern would work the same on most lakes this time of year.

I would call Juniper Cove Marina, (lakewhitneymarina.com) and stay at one of their cedar cabins, you can launch there it is protected and fish Cedar Creek and catch all the fish you want, largemouth will move into the coves (has been really good), crappie at slips and white bass and striper out in the mouth where it meets the main lake.

We went out Sunday. First time I have been on Whitney in probably 15 years. We did not do well . Had 2 bites all day. I don't know the lake well at all so that probably had a lot to do with our lack of success. I figured there would be some shallow fish on cover with the sun being out. If they were there we could not get them to bite. I pretty much threw every lure I own at them. I left thinking I wished I had spent more time targeting main lake points instead of shallow. Who knows, maybe I was just fishing to fast. I have a tendency to do that this time of the year. Main lake is clear, Cedar Creek was very muddy, back of Cedron Creek was chocolate milk. Probably doesn't help you much but it's all I have to offer. Good luck!

Youre getting some bad reports here.

The rain definitely made a difference. Dropped the water temps over 10 degrees. Theyre starting to come back up some now.

Sunday took 21 to win a tournament, but there were 18 boats and the majority struggled. Its definitely fishing tough but should be getting better.

Water temp was 48-53 on Sunday.
