Well, it's time. I'm 47 and tired of the way I feel. Time to stop eating like I am 20.

I'm at 205 right now and would like to get down to 160.

Going to get back on the bike.

Anyone doing the "intermittent fasting" deal?

Hey brother, we're the same age. I just posted recently about my weight loss since the first week of the year. My only changes so far were to eliminate fast food, and to increase the proportion of veggies that I eat.

My calorie counts are still normal for me. But I don't like fasting in general - makes me cranky and crabby.

Moderation and staying moving all day goes a long way.

Limit the beer....maybe go IPA or Stout....same carbs but higher abv or more taste so you don't need but 2-3.

Eat a burger once a week.... good one...not junk fast food burger. Make it count and enjoy it!

Fasting IMO will only hurt you in the long run...body will start storing fat thinking you are on a island without food.

Think fresh foods.....veggies, veggies and more veggies. Look for way to cut bad stuff...instead of sour cream, get on the Greek Yogurt bandwagon....oh so goood!! I can't go back!

Before long you will cringe when you are forced to eat fast food.

1. Talk to a doctor.
2. You guys aught to do some research on intermittent fasting before you start bashing it as unhealthy. Current studies are finding the possibility of reduced risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer and alzheimers. (This article links to some actual studies.)

And on top of that, the insulin argument makes total sense.

The threory is, after 12 hours of fasting, your insulin levels are very low as they are not being produced to digest food. It is also known that insulin protects your stored fat from being used as fuel. So, if you fast overnight, have low insulin levels and do your cardio before eating anything, it is considered to be a much better workout in using stored fat for energy since the insulin is not there to protect it.

Runners do this once a week. You are training your body with low cardio and no sugars/carbs to burn the fat instead....many long distance runners do this.... they burn off the sugar so fast...they need to be able to produce energy off fat instead. So someone wanting to loose weight it another good option....body will burn fat (reserves).

Being "healthy" will solve those problems as well.

I also LOL on this one....you seen doctors lately? They aren't very healthy folks....I can't think of a single one that works out with the groups I am in. Maybe they are loners. LOL!

Did you find a skinny fit doctor?

Good luck man!

I have been embarked on making serious changes to my eating habits and all in health really since Jan 3 when I got my blood work and physical results from my Doc.

I would suggest yes it is a good idea to talk to your Doc. get your annual and see where you're at. This will help you benchmark and track progress not just in weight but in other KPI like your cholesterol, Blood pressure, blood sugars etc. My Doc suggested strongly I follow a "Mediterranean" style of diet. But not as a "diet" but as a long term, like forever, new way to approach eating.

In around 8 weeks I have lost 21-22lbs, dropped my Blood pressure into normal range and dropped my overall cholesterol from 273 to 195. So back into range.

Find something that works for you and stick to it. Fasting works for some. Its not for me. But sure talk to your Doc. and yall come up with a plan.

Its not as hard as I thought and like someone else mentioned, after a few weeks of "clean" eating you will really get a little sick just thinking about eating fast food or other "junk" food.

Good luck! You can do it my man!

What does the doctor's health have to do with you? Doctor's job is to determine if YOU are healthy enough for a diet and/or which diet plan is best for your current health and goals. If you have a good doctor, why do you care about their weight?

Excellent results Dan.

I am scared to see my cholesterol. I know last time they were checked, Tryglicerides were in the 500's

I've had high blood pressure since I was 18 and 127 pounds so I assume I am screwed with that for life.
