I meant to bring this up on TFF yesterday. His passing was covered on yesterday's sports page. I had the privilege of meeting and fishing with Ray and his wife in 2009. I had sent him a copy of the article I posted on the Mepps web site about using Mepps to catch white bass in lakes. I invited him to come fish with me, and I'd show him the technique. So, in early July he and wife came to my house, we fished and then had lunch together. They both caught some whites using Mepps, and he went on to write an article about it and published it later that July.

I have long been a reader of the outdoors sections of newspapers and newsletters including Ray's columns, which DMN published on Thursdays and Sundays. While I lived in Houston I followed the Houston Chronicle's outdoors reports. Also, I subscribed to the Lake Livingston Sportsman, which was published by fishing guide Curt Carpenter. As a working man, I would glean their articles for clues as to where and how they were catching white bass, so when Saturday came I had the best intel I could get for locating and catching white bass.

I offer my sympathy and best wishes to Ray's family, and I certainly will miss Ray's reports.

God speed, Ray!

Nice post, DC. Cool stories. Hubbard guys were remembering Ray Sasser yesterday in our chat group. The RH old timers were very fond of Ray and said Ray had a long battle with cancer which I did not know about. I got hooked into Ray's section in the DMN when I moved to Dallas. Back in 2004 while reading one of Ray's fishing articles I saw a texasfishingforum dot com link and clicked on it and the rest is history lol.

Ray did wrote a story on RHSA a few year ago on the DMN. And he covered many more stories with TFFers in them, including DC's cool. Mepps story too. Loved reading those!

Rest in peace Mr. Sasser! We will miss you.

I knew Ray well...he had a fondness for our north TEXAS lakes and was connected to the local fisherman like u and I.

Prayers to his family and extended family.

Over the years Ray did several articles about fishing on Richland Chambers and our Guide Service. Just last month he was kind enough to do one about Winter Catfishing and share how we were using a casting technique to catch them in the timber. We'll miss him much!
