I do not want to believe but Fox is now reporting there were four deputies at the school. None went in.

Sources are saying when Coral Springs police officers arrived they found Broward county officers behind their vehicles guns drawn.

Tough to comprehend. Obviously they knew what was going on because they responded to the call. As parent, if you lost a kid, I don't know how you could ever reconcile any of this.

I know it's easy to Monday morning quarterback, and I know the fog of war can cause people to do irrational things, but man... what cowards.

Not to point out the obvious but when you consider how many people have been shot questionably by police lately here was a chance to do so properly and they choked.

There's a good chance that if the shooter even heard return fire, that he would have offed himself. Too bad that didn't happen.

No words can express this type of failure. Orders, policies, and blah blah blah go out the window in a life or death active shooter situation... You go stop the killing however it needs to be done. Period.

There is a good chance if he had seen a cop or another gun he would�ve surrendered. Reports were that, when he heard sirens getting close, he dropped the gun and joined in with the students evacuating.

I don�t know about that and I hate that we even have to consider that. However, Sheriff Israel, who I don�t trust at all based on what he has said since the townhall on CNN, did say this back in October:

In October 2017, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said in response to the Las Vegas shooting that there is nothing that can be done to stop gunman who are "killing people" and committing "great carnage."

Facts:

1) Nobody knows for sure what would have happened if those 5 armed individuals had gone into the school. One can only make assumptions.

2) Everybody knows what did happen because they waited for more reinforcements.

We do know what happened in another school shooting back in 2015 when 2 plainclothes detectives decided to act, rather then wait. Two plainclothes detectives from the Roseburg Police Department were the first to respond to the scene. They arrived at the hallway of Snyder Hall at 10:44, six minutes after the first 9-1-1 call was received. Two minutes later, the shooter reloaded his handguns and leaned out of the classroom, firing several shots at the officers. They fired three shots in return, hitting him once in the right side.[17] After two more minutes of shooting at the officers, the wounded Harper-Mercer retreated into the classroom and killed himself with a single shot to his head. None of the officers were injured.

But in the Roseburg shooting, they are able to approach and shoot at the gunman from outside. You have to enter a building, without knowing where the gunman is located, or if there are multiple gunman, it changes the situation. But 5 armed police officers should have been enough to start an approach and sweep of the building.

Officers like this are the same officers who use deadly force in situations when hands on physical force should be used to control the situation. This starts with the hiring process and training. Scared cowards who never should�ve worn a badge. Had the opportunity to save lives and instead chose to do nothing.

They may not have known where the gunman was, but had they followed the sound of gunfire, I�m confident that even the cowards of Broward could have gotten close enough.

This is still a developing story. The sheriff involvement with the press from the beginning is interesting. The information about additional officers on scene is interesting. Prior complaints against the murderer not followed up on are interesting.

You go to where the gun shots are being heard and the crowd is running from.. you gather information from students running out.. you go stop the threat!!! Period... you don�t stand outside while there is active gun fire inside. These are officers who took an oath to protect, not civilians.. I believe an officer has a duty to act and not acting should be a criminal crime in my own opinion.

Give up your guns...the police will protect you.

If the police need to be armed as well as the bad guys I believe law abiding citizens should also have that right.

I agree that all of that is interesting.

The sheriff�s statements at the townhall were the terrible. He was grandstanding. He seemed to have higher political aspirations. It�s almost hard to believe he would say the things he said and knowing details would come out later showing his department failed terribly.

Then, the very next day he had to give a press conference and say that his deputy failed terribly, which he already knew. He also had to say they were investigating other instances where they had contact with the shooter in the past, which he stomped his feet and shook his fists about at the townhall just the night before when he was called out on that by Dana Loesch.

Then, we find out that the local PD arrived and it wasn�t one deputy that didn�t go after the shooter, it was four of them. They were hiding behind their patrol cars with weapons drawn.

And, we find out that the SRO had prior contact with the shooter years ago and later had refused to share details of that contact with state CPS investigators who were looking into Cruz.

The local PD sent an internal email to its staff commending them on the work they did at the scene of the shooting and expressed dismay at the sheriff�s office for statements and actions the sheriff and deputies had made since the shooting, saying something to the effect that the truth will come out.

I mentioned this in another thread, but there was an expose published a few years ago by a website called Conservative treehouse, which I�m not very familiar with and I can�t find any other outlet that picked it up. It was unrelated to anything that happened in the last few weeks, but it was about the Broward County Sheriff�s Department starting a policy intended to lower the crime rate amongst kids. The story alleges that there was an effort to make the county look good by ignoring or actively covering up crimes committed by high school students and the effects it had on actual crime in the county. Literally, hiding evidence, such as stolen goods, and ignoring and not reporting or working crimes so that the crime rate among youths dropped.

It was inconceivable to me when I read it earlier this week, even after the townhall and press conference. However, the report that the SRO refused to cooperate with the CPS investigation into Cruz and the fact that the sheriff�s department didn�t do anything with any of the 30-some odd calls about Cruz makes it seem plausible.

I think we are a long way from hearing the end of the problems (corruption, even) of the Broward County sheriff�s department.

Have the cops offered any reason why they waited?
It is being assumed by many computers in here that they were cowardly.
Could there have been some department policy regarding a live shooting situation?
If they had not gone in then they might not have known what was happening at the monument.
We have the advantage of hind sight and they didn't. At least give them the benefit of the doubt until the facts are clear.

I just read through the first incident timeline and us and corrected.
The resource officer did not t say anything public ally but did pretty much own up to his inaction by quitting.

Policy is probably set up a perimeter and wait for back up or whatever. Not right, but it happens.

No department policy is to set up a perimeter while you listen to active gunfire inside a school building... I can promise you that is not taught. If it is, whoever is responsible needs to be held accountable.

An officer, male or female, has already asked themselves and played the what if game in their head if they would enter into an active shooter situation and save lives or if they would stand on the side lines. Officers know their personal answer, and in my opinion any officer who knows they wouldn�t enter the building to stop the killing needs to go find another career, because this one isn�t for them. That�s the true reality!

To me their story wouldnt matter worth a chit. They are cops, they have guns, theyre suppose to enforce the law, they heard shots, get your azz in there and kill the punk azz thats doing the shooting, end of story.

Apparently not, because the sheriff said very clearly why he was suspended and still under investigation for not going in, even though he resigned.

So maybe this was some kind of department policy or at least since the Sheriff had spoken of it publicly the deputies thought they would follow their leader's suggestion.

Still morally unconscionable that anyone would be so timid or cowardly.

I'll tell you guys my Coral Springs cop story. Lived about 2 miles from the school, late 80's, worked in Ft. Lauderdale. Was at a club called Christopher's in Ft.Lauderdale one night, I'm sitting at the bar, only know the beautiful bar tender. Drunk comes up and orders a drink standing next to me. I leave my smokes and a lighter on top of it, on the bar, as I go to the men's room. Come back, lighter is gone. I knew he took it but I asked around the bar and sure enough a lady tells me the guy picked it up as soon as I'd left. I walked out on the dance floor where he was dancing with his date and told him I wanted my lighter back. He screams, " I could drop you right now!" Bartender had bouncers there quick, escorted him out of club, found out he was a Coral Springs cop. I didn't get my lighter back. I did report him the next day. Nothing came of it.

Broward county has always had a reputation of having cops with the worst attitude. Miami/Dade cops have a reputation of being nice but more on the take.
