Wow... Ray was a good man.

He fished with me on several occasions over the years at Fork. One day in Oct he hooked and lost a Giant on a Bagley DB3 crankbait. He wrote the article about his day on the lake with me and titled it Loch Fork Monster

Sad to hear he is gone.

Ray was a friend and was instrumental in helping get the word out about Private Water Fishing. I was able to fish with Ray and his wife Emile many times. The last time was in April and likely the most fun we had. Ray and Emile are folks who are truly interested in others. Ray caught 6 fish over 5 lbs, including a 9lb fish. Emile caught a 7 lber. About 2 years ago Ray invited me to his induction to the TPWD Hall of Fame. Ray likely had 25 friends and family who were there to witness his induction. Unfortunately, Ray had to miss due to illness, he was in the hospital. He has been sick for a long time. I've spoken to several outdoor sportswriters who believed Ray Sasser likely had the largest impact of any regional outdoor sportswriter in the country. Ray will be missed by so many!

I've not seen anything in the press. A friend of Ray's texted me this morning about it.

Years ago reading the Thursday fishing report in the Dallas Morning News was the way I found out about fishing in lakes around the state. I called Mr. Sasser a could of times to ask him questions about lakes before I drove hours to fish them. He was very friendly and helpful to someone he had never met. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Saddened to hear this news, his presence will be sorely missed. A few years ago Ray Sasser spoke at the service for mutual friend Ray Murski. Like his writing, Sasser's words at that time were thoughtful, inspirational and motivating to all who knew Murski and all who appreciate the experience of the great outdoors.

RIP Mr. Sasser. He did a column on an experience I had back in the early 80's. I had gone deer hunting in East Texas (Davy Crockett Ntl Forest). My campsite was robbed and he was kind enough to warn other hunters about it in his column. He was very gracious and polite. I always enjoyed his writings. Texas has lost a great outdoor sportswriter.

Ray was a good guy.

I called him a few times with fishing questions and he was more than patient with me answering them.

I once emailed him and asked him what he thought of bass fishing in Mexico and he gave me a very well informed and unbiased opinion.

I used to keep some of his DMN articles in a someday I want to go there pile.
