We used to have a fish cleaning table of sorts on our local marina. Guides and people who had boats at the marina would also. They had to take it down and what I was told was that the COE made them take it down because you aren't supposed to dump fish carcases in the Lake.....REALLY?? We now clean em at our slips and throw them in the lake it doesn't seem to attract cats. We would be ok if it did. We just really like to catch fish, doesn't matter what kind.

The fish cleaning stations at the state parks aren't my final destination either, but I'm sure gonna leave my carcasses there.

An old guide buddy on Fork used to clean all his crappie on his dock. Then come time for the Fork catfish tourney every year him and his neighbors would fish his dock and get checks every year. He almost won it one year I think!!

Not sure where you came up with this, but it is not what the TPWD has to say about it.
Here is what it says:

In order to verify length and species, a fish caught may not have the head or tail removed and may not be filleted until an angler finally lands the catch on the mainland, a peninsula, or barrier island not including jetties or piers and does not transport the catch by boat.

It's not illegal.

Pretty sure you might revisit the regulations with an eye on the exceptions, rather than the general or blanket statements...ie., government doublespeak (double negative verbage) requires breaking down any regulation based on the exceptions. Hope this helps....good thing to remember as you get out of college and start a career... thumb

Surprisingly, lakes have a way of cleaning themselves very well. We owned a boat dock on Grand Lake in Oklahoma for many years in the back of a cove. We threw all of our fish remains back in the lake right off the side of the dock and still caught tons of crappie all year round. I never noticed an increase in the catch of catfish except when they spawned in May. We had rods and cane poles all the way around that dock in spring and at nighttime.

The key word in dealing with regulations is interpretation.
