Same as between first guide a reel, so it does not get hung up on your reel.

I have tried every knot mentioned except for the Dodd knot. I prefer the Uni to Uni, for some reason it is easier for me to consistently tie than the others. Just like tying on baits the more you tie leaders the quicker and easier it gets. My leader length is my arm spread just like Joefishin.

I also have started using the Uni to tie on baits, it is easier to be consistent.

All these crazy knots, aint' nobody got time for all that. I have used the UNI to UNI and have had success with it. I just use a Triple Surgeons because I can tie it while running my trolling motor, it's very strong and easy to tie.

Happy to help!

I 2nd the Alberto as the best connection for braid to leader to tie on the water. The FG knot I like and do use especially for larger line sizes but I usually tie it in the garage and don't care to on the water. I can do it, I am just so much fast with the Alberto that's what I use when I'm actually fishing and not preparing.

Finally, the one clarification I would make is the use of a leader vs. a top-shot.

A leader is the short section of line between the end of your braid to fluoro knot and lure. Usually used to add transparency to your presentation.

A top shot is a long section of line between your braid to fluoro knot and the lure. The purpose of the longer section of fluoro is so that when you are fighting a fish, the knot is usually on the reel and not between you and the fish. Also makes a spool of fluoro last a lot longer if you tie on a 50 yard section 4 times rather than a full spool once.

Best of luck!
