The Ray Hubbard Bass Club had our first tournament of 2018 last Saturday February 10th at Lake Palestine. Weather forecasts and other issues including how may other tournaments that were going to be out there kept the field down to 23 boats. The weather was strange to be sure. Temperatures were very mild to start the morning and there was no wind. This combination brought heavy fog in the picture. Moving around was not really possible. In fact the FOM tournament out of The Villages held their participants until 11:00. About that time the anticipated cold front arrived. Wind picked up hard from the north and the temperature dropped like a rock. Palestine is fished heavy this time of year because it seems to be a better cold water lake then most. That did not prove to be the case for our Club. Bites were very hard to come by. None of our teams weighed a 5 fish limit. When all was said and done, Bryce Glick fishing solo weighed four fish for 9.78 pounds to take the win. Josh Mulkey brought an 8.05 pound bass to the scales to take big fish honors. Here are full results and pictures. Kenny and Kasey Bunch had one keeper for 2.18 Preston Smith and David Horton had one for 2.93 Jim Phillips and Randy Bridges had two for 3.24 Brian Brooks fished with Paul Spann and they had one for 4.27. Nice chunk! Dennis and Damon Machost fished up north and weighed two for 4.61 David Choate and Stan Browning had three for 5.59. If you think David looks rough, you should have seen Stan...

Just missing the money were David Mulkey and Tommy Yates who had three for 6.31 If you're only going to get one keeper bite, make it big enough to get a check and get big bass! Here's Josh Mulkey with their 8.05 toad As Chris said, if we could have only had something in our other hands... We caught two for 8.79 to get fourth. Mark Werner and Vince Burt had two for 9.27 that included a 5.62 big fish. Proving the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Tony Climer Jr. and his partner Kyle Bell had three for 9.37 to get second Here is your winner! Bryce Glick had four for 9.78 to take his first RHBC win. Congratulations Bryce! Thanks to David Simmons for doing registration, and David Mulkey and Tommy Yates for doing live well checks. Thanks to Robert Hitt, Big John and Paul Spann for running weigh in. Looking forward to warmer temps and better fishing at our next tournament. It comes Saturday March 10th at Cypress Springs going out of Overlook Park ramp. Our meeting will be on WEDNESDAY March 7th. Hope to see you there!

I loved the weather and had a great time. One of these days I even hope to catch a fish to help out my partner. Great job David.
