Having the opportunity to get out of the house for a while, I woke up early and loaded up the kayak on the back of the truck. I knew the morning would be dreary and foggy, but that did not stop me from making the trip out to Lake Somerville. The fog was thick reaching Hempstead and did not subside the rest of the way. Once I got to Nails Creek SP around 8am, I unloaded the yak and had a difficult time deciding if Nails Creek or Yegua creek was going to be my final destination. Half way across the lake, I choose the Yegua, and I'm glad that I made that decision. I peddled the kayak into the mouth of the opening. There was one other boater trying to get into the creek, and no other yakers in sight. I had 2 rods set up for white bass, and one rod set up for crappie. I made my way to Wolf Pond and threw out the spinner baits. Worked my way up to the bend with not a single hit. Just as I reached the bend, my fish finder lite up like a Christmas tree with red and blue, which for me, meant that there was a huge school of fish below me. I put aside the spinner bait and tossed out crappie jig 6-7 feet below me. I no time I got hit after hit with some of the biggest slabs I've caught in the Yegua. By 11 am, I had 16 fish all over 12 inches. I gave up on the white bass for the day and hauled back out to the boat ramp. There was a nice couple in a jon boat that arrived right as I was leaving. I put them on the same spot I was fishing, and wished them well. The wind started to blow from the south, so I'm glad the fishing trip ended early, and I made it back to my house at a decent hour to spend the rest of my Sunday relaxing at home
