My uncle brought some bison liver from a bison he had killed. But it didn't work very well. My guess is cow brains would just attract turtles.

If it is shallow enough, I've seen people partially submerge a 50 gallon drum, and then they create ramps up to the top with boards. They design a latch that when the turtle goes to sun himself he falls in, due to his weight being on the latch.

Other than that having a .22 handy will do the trick.

You will have to look around at some of the asion food stores. I bought 5 lbs a few years ago that was out of date a by a few weeks. I found it at a store south of Beltline, west of Greenville ave.
I made a bucket of Bells of Hell gave most of it away.

Get on Catfishedge.com and look for the bait recipes. One of them uses brains and blood I think.

Just cracked the lid on a 55 gal drum of hog brains, shad guts and ground shad with about 75 lbs of cheese. been sitting for 2yrs, just about lost my cookies on this batch. Now to add the cotton fiber my buddy gets from his brother who farms cotton. Post a pick of it when I get the first batch in the bucket. Been using Big Marv's for the last few years and have done great with it, but just had to try the old family recipe again. Also had a place to do it out of town. cause this will have the people up in arms if you do it in town.

Many years ago used to buy beef brains at a slaughter house and fish flooded rice fields when the early spring rains hit. The fields would flood 5' to 6' deep and the irrigation ditches connecting the fields would be an extra 3'-4' deep. The cats would use these ditches like highways to move all around the flooded areas. They would feed at night then go back to the deeper ditches in the daylight hours. We would drift over a ditch and then anchor and pitch the fresh beef brains out up and down the ditch. Was very effective. I didn't care for the bait, but the old guy who showed me this way of fishing swore by them.

My father and I made some stink bait using 5 lbs of beef brains and 4 lbs of sharp cheddar cheese and 1 lb of Limburger cheese. We ground it all up mixed it all together and put it into quart mason jars with the lids on snug but not tight so the fermentation gases could escape. You don't want the jars to explode. Then we put the jars in a container in the garage outdoors and let it ferment for about 3-4 months. You do have to make sure the flies don't get into it or it will be ruined. As far as dip bait goes it was the best that we have ever used.
