Not necessarily. If you pay it off in full before the billing cycle end, then no interest. They calculate the interest on the balance owed at the end of the billing cycle. No Balance = No Interest

Best currently is Alliant Credit union Visa Signature offering 3% back on every transaction.

But there are some good ones out there, especially if you travel allot for work & turn in a expense account to get reimbursed by the Company. If you know you are going to spend substantial amounts each year & don't carry any balances, this may help you out.

Best is Citibank 2% cash back rewards card. That means for every $1,000.00 you spend they give you $20.00.
Credit Score is probably going to be way up there for this one. Little risk for them but a nice Reward for the user.

Capitol One has one that pays 1.5% cash back, but offer $150.00 incentive if you spend $500.00 in the 1st 3 months after you receive it. It is with MasterCard.

Chase Freedom Unlimited also has a Visa card that is 1.5% with $150.00 if you spend $500.00 in 3 months.

All the things no one told me when I was young.

But I have gotten 1% cash back on my primary Credit card, a Chase Visa since 1992....lol.

Best currently is actually Alliant Credit unions Visa Signature offering 3% back on every transaction.

SPG card from Amex is a nice reward card for travel.

Visa Signature from Fidelity is 2% cashback on everything

The game is sign up bonuses though- Something like Ink Business is offering 80k pts after 5k spend which translates into 80k southwest pts or a couple roundtrip flights down to Mexico.

I have a Cabela's card with approximate $600 credits but everything is so overpriced with them, I can't find a place to use them. Pay off the card monthly and have since having it.

This.

Flying the family (5) to Canada this year with a 2 week car rental while there. All on my Citibank Thankyou Rewards which I've had for about 15 years. I've gotten a lot of hotel stays and airline tickets with it over the years. It's just like free money (which is hard to come by these days).

Some monthly bills will work but most won't.

Citi American Airlines Advantage is great if you fly even occasionally.

Free bag if you are a cardholder. For you AND a guest.

That's $50 off on a solo round trip. $100 if it's you and the wife flying . Again even if you only fly a handful of times a year it's worth it.

Credit Cards have become so mainstream that last 10 years, you can even buy fast food with them.

There is a heck of a lot of expense associated with running a credit card company. You think Merchants should benefit from that without having to pay anything for using the service?

Credit Card companies are not needed for a business. The credit card companies have gotten the American consumer hooked on using credit cards and not cash.

It would be nice to see credit card companies to go away in the future, some other type of remittance service that doesn't charge so much to the business.

Nerdwallet.com is a useful tool for picking a CC. You can search by what is important to you. I use the Chase Saphire Preffered card bc they have had it listed as the best overall card for rewards for a few years. 1% on all purchase, 2% on travel (flights, hotel, cars). One thing i really like is I can get cash back if I want but I can also transfer points 1:1 to all major airlines or hotels. I expense about $75k a year in travel for work and have all my bills I can attached to it. I try my best to save the points for later use. Also if you book travel through the card they add 25% to your points balance.

I picked the Bank of America Cash Rewards card. 3% on gas, 2% on grocery stores and 1% on all else. $150 bonus when you sign up & if you're a preferred member the rewards you earn get a 25-75% mutilplier. I think you have to have a Merrill Lynch account for that. Also it's 0% for the first 12 months you have it. Seemed like a pretty deal.

The free bag alone on two trips pays for my annual card fee

I've got American express blue cash preferred card...it gives me back 6% on groceries up to $6,000.00 then 1% after that,3% on gas and 1% on everything else......we charge almost all of our monthly expenses on this card and our rebate averages around $75.00 per month...
as several people have mentioned, pay off the balance every month or those bloodsuckers will get in your pocket big time...
