Hey there, so I plan to catch a Sharelunker in the next few weeks. I am sure it will be in the 8 - 9 pound class, with a possibility of a DD. However, in the off chance I get the top tier bass exceeding 13 lbs, what do I do as a bank fisherman? Would it be best for me to carry a large cooler so I can fill it with water and put the fish in it? I fish in some locations where monsters lurk, but no boats may be around.

What would you do?

I am kidding with my over confidence in catching a Sharelunker, but as bank fisherman and kayak fisherman, i'm curious on how you would handle a 13+ pound fish. I am all about CPR, but dang, it would be hard to pass up a Sharelunker opportunity.

I am also planning on doing this so interested in hearing feedback.

When yakking I have kept bass on a simple stringer over the side and had them be perfectly healthy and kicking at the end of the day.

Best thing to do is get a portable scale calibrated by a licensed company. You can get the fish weighed right there. If by yourself you would need a large ice chest filled with water. A portable aerator would be nice to have. Try to get the fish weighed and released as quickly as possible. thumb

Side Note: It's best to have a portable certified scale and someone with you while fishing for large record fish. Good luck hope you get one! cheers

I'm looking forward to the day I have to worry about such a thing.

I just hope the next time I pond fish, probably within the next couple of weeks, I pull a few in, of any weight.

This a great question really. I think most would be unprepared if on the event such a thing happened. I know myself all that I would be able to do is take measurements and pics and let it go... I just wouldnt want to kill such an awesome and old fish by accident. Good luck and I hope we all catch that DD this spring!

OK guys.......question.

I bought some medium bait minnows in the fall and have kept them in an old aquarium with gold fish all winter. Nice fat and large. Much bigger than larger minnows but they don't look like shad.

Want to put them on a hook and see what I catch. Should I fish those puppies off the bottom or a bobber and a couple feet from surface? I live near Ray Hubbard. Hints of a good spot would be nice.

You cold fish them either way or you could free line them, just no weight or bobber just give them line and let them swim around.

Its fine that they dont look like shad. If they are lively they will get hit.

Without any more details I would say if you were crappie fishing I would put them under a bobber, and off the bottom for catfish or bass...free line for about anything.

cool. Will try to fish them off the bottom in RC behind my house or one of the flat areas near Miller with no debris.

There are some nice sized rosey reds in there as well. I have tried crappie on the rosey reds and they will nail them hard.

Had some other fish go after them but the crappie are mean on the rosey reds. Typically they are small from the bait shop but a couple months in the tank and they are nice and fat.
