Sorry for the late report; with a death in the family, I just couldn't get it together.
January 14 – 19, gave use 6 days of fishing on Lake Oviachic Mexico. I took 6 fisherman on this trip with 3 boats. We fished basically shallow most days looking for the spawning fish. We only averaged 60 Bass per boat this early Jan. trip.

The early morning Spinner Bait bite was good for the first hour each morning then it was on to the Brush Hogs and Lizards. Half of our fish each day ranged from 4 to 6 pounds. The lesser half was of much better quality this year than last year. The lake is still recovering from all the high water of years past and the great spawns producing lots of the smaller Bass. These smaller fish still ranged from 2.5 to 4 pounds and was a lot of fun to catch.

The bite in the bushes was not what I was expecting. With a new boat, depth finders and trolling motor; I sent many hours each day searching the bluffs and under water humps for the larger fish. I had the big fish of the week at 8.32 from 25 ft. of water on a Crig using a Brush Hog. I feel like my partner and I really missed out on the numbers of fish by not running from one cove to the next looking for the big groups of fish moving into the shallows. I was determined to utilize that new equipment to find fish in deep water. Being hard headed doesn’t usually pay off; although I was glad to catch the one over 8 lbs..

We are returning this next week for the second trip Feb. 18 – 23. After 30 years of doing this I have learned another lesson and will be working those flats as the spawn is in full swing now. I would also like to return in March and do not charge a fee on these trips. If you and a partner would like to go just give me a shout. Thanks for looking.

I am so appreciative of all your kind thoughts for Mom. It was a long ordeal for my father as he took care of her at home with round the clock nurses for over 10 years. He is a much better man than I am.

Thanks so much,
Doanld
