Id never expect fuel money as Im the one driving to my spots. And Id be there co angler or not.

Also I dont want to weight the boat down but I want to be prepared. Im taking 2carolina rig rods one lite one heavy. Square bill , rattle trap and spinner/ chatterbait rod. And jig Just enough plastic and weights to get through the day. Any other ideas? I am thinking about making a killer sandwich one thatll take him some time to eat as it will get a rod out of his hand for awhile leaving me some alone time lol

Just split half the gas. Whey do you call it a tip? He's not a guide!
Don't bring a huge tackle box. Get an idea of what he is using, and go from there. No more than 5 rods, max. Don't step on the seats or smoke! Many smokers will flip their hot ash not thinking about burning a hole in the carpet. It happens! Also, don't cast in front of him. Let him cast first and then you cast, so you won't cross. Have fun!

Bitch about the size of his boat. It's priceless. Tell em you just finished a sentence in solitary confinement and the cell had more room to roam than his back deck. Yell "get the net" on every bite.

..at the end of the day, he won't want your money....he'll just want ya gone.

Now Steez, what if you're the boater ?

That's what I get when I AM THE BOATER! How'd you think I learned it?

Just don't do it when flippin'. Something about an unhinged 1-1/2oz tungsten coming out like a patriot missle kinda scares ya. Make sure he's dragging some depth first.

Co Anglers help keep these guys on the tours by buying the products of their sponsors. A very low percentage of the public cares anything about tournament fishing. It's a very small niche industry. There are very few pro anglers who could have made consistent living off tournament winnings. They all benefit from those who are into tournament fishing. You are not going to see many fans of tournament fishing that were not into tournaments at one time or another or had a close tie such as a family member in the sport. I know plenty of people who like to fish who care zero about tournament fishing. That makes it different from the other sports such as golf.

I never liked when they dropped the Co-anglers in the Elites although I understand that the goal was to take them out of the outcome and make it more strictly on what the pro did. To me it was biting the hand that feeds you.

If I were going to be a co-angler I would offer enough to cover that days fuel bill. I would only do the c-angler if I wanted to go out on the Tour. It would be a learning experience. If I caught a few behind the pro and cashed a check then that would be a bonus. You can fish local level tournaments for the competition and work up from there. There are tons of tournament options.

Just my outlook on it. I am sure many look on it much differently.

I never ask for or expect gas money but if they offer I'll take it. I had a co-angler one time that had fished for 9 years and never made a regional, but it looked like if he caught 1 fish in the last tournament he was finally going to make it. I told him the night before to tie on one of my yellow magics and we would get him a fish before I ever picked up a rod. Sure enough, he caught a 4 pounder right off the bat and danced his azz off on the back deck, ran to the front and was high fivin', hugged me, thought he was going to kiss me. We had a fun day, both got in the money and at the weigh in line he handed me some money, tearfully, and I stuck it in my pocket and felt really happy for the guy. I got home and pulled the money out of my pocket, 4 wadded up $1 bills. And he forgot to give my yellow magic back.

Thats a good story. I have had guys offer me fuel money I never took it. Told them take a kid fishing with that money. Im guessing theres a lot of different opinions. I was told by someone some of the guys ask you at the meeting for fuel money lol.
I did co angler couple times in bfl. Last one was the last for bfl. Lol got front ended pretty badly I thought it was cheesy. I was in 8 th till I zerod the second day ended 12th. Reason I decided to do costa was to see what I could learn. Im never to old to learn. I dont live there so Im not gonna be stealing someones spots. I do fish there prolly 5 times a year. I will be back on the 28h for 5 days cant wait.

That co angler shouldve atleast contacted you and mailed the yellow magic back. I was a co once and the boater came over to where I was loading up asked me if I took one of his rods on accident. I let him look my stuff over. But I still thought he didnt beleive me. I gave him a call a month later and he told me he had put it up already and didnt realize it. I was relieved. I really thought hed call and say hey I found that rod.

I have a different take on this than most,I've never been a co or pro,but plan to try my hand at the pro side before I hang it up.I would never ask or take money from the co-angler,it's my boat my spots, all I expect from them is to take care of my equipment which I would spell out my expectations before we ever got in the water. If I can't make it without the co pitching in on the gas then I shouldn't be entered.JMHO!

I would offer $40-$50, if they take it they take it if they don't they don't. I agree that if the pro is dependent upon the co to offset fuel costs he might wanna reconsider tourney fishing.

I fish the Ram Opens as a co. I normally give 40 bucks for gas no matter what. I gave a little less one time because the guy was a bit of a tool. If I have a particularly good day, I'll give 50. Other than that, take 5 rods, be on time if he wants the net and be ready to go when he says it's time to make a move.

Here is a good example of something you should NOT do as a CO. If I was the boater I would be pissed if all of that was in my way when I went to put a fish in the livewell. This is a screenshot from a Co who posted a video on youtube of a day as a CO in the BFL Cowboy division.
