I have the production mold for the full size version of that bait that I never even use.

I lose a lot of fish with those and miss a lot on the drop they often come in with the wires all bent up.. I bend them to darn near touching the hook when I do use them now.

I dont fish the ned often, but I always have it on a rod, yellow high vis line with a leader. I usually toss it out when Im eating or taking a break, I almost always catch a fish on it then... Ive told myself I should clean my boat out and leave only ned and 2-3 rods with ned and go fishing for a few days.

Anybody ever tried using a tube hooked on the Ned rig?
Was wondering if those "tentacles " floating up would attract some better bites ?

Im a believer. But im from Colo and the fish here are smaller.

I worked a bed fish for 30+ minutes with tubes, pacas, jigs... then my lab fell in the water making all kinds of commotion. Right after I got her back into the boat I decided to try a ned and the fish hit on the first cast within 2 minutes of my dog falling in. I have pics of the dog thrashing around with a time stamp and pics of the fish 2 minutes later.

I also had a 100+ smallmouth day using a NED last year.

What rod/reel combo do you all use for this? I have an old ultra light combo but was thinking of upgrading to something with more backbone than the ultralight rod.

That rig looks awesome! Unfortunately I'll need to keep my purchase less than 150 (if I want to stay married).

I thought I was the only one who caught mostly small ones on it. Granted I did get bites but man most were 12-13/34 at best. They hit it a lot when I was bringing it back in. I like the idea of throwing it out, and leaving it while having a sandwich, likely works!!

fishing in sd for smallmouth they murdered a ned rig just slowly reeled in a few feet off the bottom. I dunno why, I would have never guessed it but my draw partner was doing that. I caught as many just tossing it out and letting it sit while doing other stuff.

I've fished with Ned Kehde (Ned rig) many times years ago. He used a Zebco Cardinal spinning reel with the bail taken off (no line twist), a 5.5' or 6' inexpensive medium action rod and light line. The man kicked my arse many more times than not with that wimpy set up. He has written many articles for In-Fisherman and other magazines. He usually races to 100 on a normal day of fishing in Kansas lakes.
