Ok, I give up. I'm finally ready to try again after several years of using a spinning set up for fishing wacky senkos, and specifically skipping them under/around cover.

The last time I experimented with the set up I had nothing but problems from knots in line, etc....

I need to know from you Proud Fairy Wanders what would be my best rod/reel set up to buy, and what size/type line will give me the least amount of problems for this application?

Any other tips appreciated.

I have an Alpha Angler Wrench paired with a Stradic Ci4+ (2500). The wrench is a medium but has plenty of back bone to horse a fish out from under a dock, and I can not imagine a better spinning reel then the Stradic for the money.

I use 35# braid main line with a 20-25 ft flouro leader, 10# flouro.

Someone mentioned it earlier this week as well, but I like to run a stick bait t-rig style and put a nail weight in the tail of the bait so it falls away from me and further under the dock.

Trigged senkos are easy to skip with a side arm cast and a top spin roll flick of the wrist

Wacky�sometimes the bait will tumble

I�d start with skipping Trigged senkos. Once you are good at that, progress to wacky

683SF Dobyns Champion rod with reel of your choice. I loved my Stradic that is now on the bottom of Cedar Creek. I will be buying a Revo X. 20lb Power Pro with a 10lb Fluorocarbon leader 6-8 ft. Great for docks or drop shots. Going to switch to high vis yellow or green on the braid. It's hard to see that thin braid and the high vis line allows you to see the strikes.

For other than around docks and thick cover:

Reel = Shimano Ci4+ 2500 or 3000. Less money? A Shimano Nasci is very good $100 reel.

Rod = Something 6' to 7' Medium or even Medium Light power, slower than a fast tip. Lighter action/ slower tip than a baitcasting rod, anyway. You don't reel against a fish, you let the rod do the work. It bends, you pull up against it maintaining the loading (bend) on the rod, then reel down gathering up the line dropping the tip keeping pressure on the line. Lift rod tip slowly, repeat. If you reel against your drag, it'll twist your line. If you let the line go slack, the fish has a better chance to get off.

It takes about 2X or 3X longer to bring a fish in on spinning tackle as it does with a bait caster.

Lines would typically be 10 to 12 lbs. braid mainline to a 6 to 8 lbs. fluoro leader for small/medium T-Rigs, wacky worms, Ned Rigs, etc.

If you�re gonna be skipping docks and brush, don�t be afraid to go with a 17 or 20 lb fluoro leader.

^^^ +1 on the rod recommendations above. I'd go medium. Most places in Texas and Louisiana have too much cover for me to be comfortable with a medium light.

For skipping senkos and shaky heads around docks, I'll go up to a medium heavy spinning rod if there's lots of vegetation around the docks (like you'll find in East Texas/Louisiana)

I like to fish 3 and 4 inch senkos using the dock shooting method. The bigger senkos are too heavy for this. Extremely accurate out to 30+ feet and can get you in tighter places than skipping. I use a 6'9" Major Craft medium drop shot rod with an extra fast tip. Extra fast is a must for dock shooting. You can practice in your back yard or even a hallway in your house. This rod skips great, too. If you want to wacky rig, use the Eco Pro 1/32 wacky weights so you have something to hold on to. You can also shoot a drop shot with 1/16 or lighter tear drop weight. 8 or 10 lb. mono or Invisx work fine. If you want to use braid, 10 lb. Fireline is super strong and doesn't get wind knots as bad as other braids because of it's stiffness. You really don't need a leader if you tie it with a FishnFool knot.
