My family and I are heading to Ruidoso tomorrow and I was looking for someone who could tell me if I could fly fish anywhere close to there? I have never been fly fishing but its a bucket list item. We will only be there Saturday and Sunday then heading back. Thanks for the help!

Rio Ruidoso but I don't know anything about it. Farther north is some great fishing.

Growing up in Ruidoso 40 years ago I could tell you alot of good fishing opportunities ...but years and years of drought, fires and a change of focus by the reservation has greatly diminished the opportunities.

Your best bet now, especially if you are new to the sport, is to try Grindstone Reservoir ...it is usually stocked often. The Inn of the Mountain Gods lake used to be awesome back in the day ...have not heard anything about it lately.

When you get a little experience, this is one of the best spots available in the Ruidoso area. (if you want to fish moving water)

Thanks for the responses, we did go and found the Rio Ruidoso was mostly dry. Ended up fishing at lake Alto, had a great time!

Glad you had a good time at Alto. Spent a lot of days there when I was in high school (40 years ago) ...it was good then but had really gone downhill and even went dry not too many years ago...glad to see it back!
