Looked on line for Wiggle Warts and found older ones starting at $50 and new ones under $10. What are your thoughts about the new ones and what's your favorite color? Are they a fish catching machine?

Absolutely, the old ones hunt better than the new ones.. Many years ago I threw the WW. In craw orange/brown from February - April focusing on 2-10 foot... Of course Fork was a different lake back then, but the results were better than average.. FYI... Good luck on your decision thumb

+1. Newer ones are decent and can be tweaked to be good. The originals are worth $50 for a reason. thumb

No good in heavy wood but that bug rules dirt and rock in cold, mid-depths.

I ordered a Red Craw and a Tennessee Shad. Our club will be on Falcon the 17th and 18th so I'm hoping the Red Craw might be a good color for February. I have always paid top dollar for my arsenal but I'm retiring at the end of this month. Have to watch my spending and start on the honey do list. I'll take the honey do list over a day at work any day.

Retirement? Bless you and enjoy FishKen. thumb

My only concern fishing that bait on Falcon would be the hooks and the scattered brush.

Good luck!

I fished Missouri lakes, and other rocky lakes quite a bit, and seriously doubt that most fishers could detect the difference.
Most Texas anglers simply don't fish rocky lakes enough to catch enough fish on these smaller crankbaits, to be able to determine if one crankbait model catches fish better than the same,(only newer) model.
I have a bunch of the old WWs, and am simply waiting for the right sucker to come along.

Agreed. Watch out for all of the brush at Falcon. Those bushes are bait grabbers for sure. Fish are shallow this time of year, so upsize your line when you're throwing it and you should be fine.

Best of luck to you and congrats on your retirement.

I have over 100 pre rapalas and yes they're better than the newer ones. They're made to use and I use em. When they get beat up I have them repainted. They're fish catching machines in my deep clear Ozark lakes. The newer ones aren't half bad but don't hunt like the old ones do.

I love the smell of two stroke in the morning.

I agree $50+ each makes them nerve racking to fish with. I found Daves custom baits Rock Warrior while fishing at Table Rock. Hands down the best non pre rapala wart Ive used. I think they were in the $15 range. I cracked 22lbs on lake Waco a couple weeks ago on it.

One of the best day's I've ever had was on the old Sub Wart. 35-40 fish in less than 2 hours all 2-3 lbs. Chartreuse black back. They wouldn't touch KVD 1.5.

I have 20 or 30 that I really don't fish in east texas because of the type of water we have. I save them for special occasions when we I need a bait to hunt in 8 to 11 feet on structure that is primarily hard bottom and rocks. You have no idea how many rocks I have caught with a wiggle wart so warts and trees do not mix well.
