That guy shouldn't have ever been an officer, and I'm sure there are plenty of instances of him doing and saying the same things under similar circumstances. I bet everyone in his department and surrounding departments has stories about him, and not the good kind.

Having said that, addressing the comment quoted above: The police don't know why he was running. Sure, we know NOW that it was for a suspended license, but we have perfect information after the fact. The cops at the time didn't know that. Even if they had known that fact, there could have been a second reason for him running that they didn't know about.

I had a guy blow a red light in front of me once, went to stop him and he took off. He was in a old POS blue pickup that wasn't going anywhere fast, and he certainly wasn't going to outrun or outmaneuver an Interceptor. But all I had on him was traffic, so after less than a minute I was about to call it when he unknowingly turned up a dead end alley. I yanked his butt out of the truck and what do you know...there in the passenger floorboard was a girl all beat to hell, almost unconscious. He wasn't running because of the traffic ticket, or warrants, or any other traffic-related offense. He was running because he had committed aggravated assault - but I didn't know that until I caught him.

In my opinion, which is often wrong, anyone running in a vehicle (fleeing) should be assumed to have committed a felony and should be treated as such, and any consequences of the pursuit should be charged on top of the fleeing charge (which should also be a felony).

So the sheriff ordered a deputy to shoot? I understand following orders and insubordination but that seems like a judgement call on the officer. I could care less if it tears up a car, I personally would do all I could to end it without blood. Maybe that's why I'm a hose dragger lol.
