What is your strategy when you have a fish hung up in the brush pile you're fishing? Do you give it slack hoping it will untangle itself, just break it off or try to pull it out taking a chance of spooking the rest of the fish? Though it has seldom worked for me, I give them a slack line but usually get tired of messing with it and break off.

If you ask the bass guys they will say use 240# braid and bring the crappie and the brush pile to the boat.

I keep tension on the line and continue to read the fish and as the fish pulls, I give the line with continued tension. The fish will either free or I break off.

Im a fan of using the rod tip (if shallow) to push the fish free, if its deep slack and hope.

Are you tandem rigging again?

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

If I am using Braid, I try to unwind them till they stop, then I give them a bit of slack to see if they will free themself...if not, I just keep horsing and let the chips fall where they may...using Braid, heavy rods, and sickle hooks....I fish heavy stuff a lot...I miss my share, but I get my share.

^^^^this...and then I send a heavy weight down the line to knock the jig loose. OK if I lose the fish...I'd rather not disturb the pile as much as possible.

I give the fish slack. 75% of the time they will swim out.
