Looking for some insight, I bought a BB1Z 5.1:1. I know it is probably not ideal for the situation, but could I get away with throwing squarebills with this reel? Thanks for the input

Sure, it's a great reel. The gear ratio might be a little lower than I would typically use for squarebill, but not a big deal. Plus, you could use it for deep cranks too.

Little low for squarebills but it won't make that much of a difference, if any. It would be great for deep cranks!

I prefer a high speed reel for squarebills, you are fishing mostly for a reaction bite.

It is designed more for the big boys, but it will work for shallow runners, too. Just crank a little faster than normal and you should be fine, heck crank the normal speed and you should be fine, too. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.
