Prior to Hurricane Harvey, there was a private gas company road off 361 (just before you get to Mustang Island State park going from Port A towards Corpus) that gave good access to Wilson's Cut and Shamrock Island. Since Harvey, the gate to that road is locked and there are No Trespassing signs.

Does anybody know whether this access is permanently closed, or whether it will eventually be re-opened to the public once maintenance/repair is completed?

I that's the road I think you are asking about, it was closed long before Harvey. There is an access road to the bay in the Park just north of Fish Pass. The road is rough but gets you into some pretty good water and a good kayak launch.

I was informed the gate was locked by 361 and the substation in early December, but I never heard of it being locked before Harvey. My guess, anglers and hunters have permanently lost a great access point. Will need to a launch down at the make shift boat ramp.

There is another dirt road between the "boat ramp" you're referring to and the road that's closed which also runs parallel to the gas line. They haven't closed that one off to the public (or at least it was still open the last couple of times that I was there, most recently earlier this month). However, to get from that road to open water you need to walk across the gasline road that is gated off, which I assume still constitutes trespassing even though you drove on an open road to get there.

Either way, it's a pain - I guess the gas company or whoever owns the property decided they had enough of trash and ruts in the road. It seems as though every year every one of us loses a favorite point of access or two this way.

In all honesty, property surrounding Wilson cut is privately owned. Up until recently property owners have not enforced (cared??) about anglers/hunters trespassing. Same thing happened at Flato Cut in between Wilson's Cut and the golf course. Public used to be able to reach Flato Cut up until 12 years ago or so, but the owners finally got fed up garbage and other stuff and started to deny access.

That's what I thought. With people trashing the area and making ruts in the road deeper/wider, it was only a matter of time before such places got closed off.
