Haven't fished it before but looks like it could be a good kayak lake, does anyone have any experience there?

I have not fished it out of a kayak but I have fished it from the bank. Had ok success there, few small ones every time that I have gone. The lake has a lot of pressure though. Still need to get the kayak out there one day, I have seen a couple of pretty large bass get yanked out of there.

Same general experience as DrewTX. I used to go over there in the late afternoons and fish from the bank. Less often in a kayak but I made several trips out that way, too. I'd recommend pulling up to the bank across from the access road boat ramp, a little cove with some cover in it. I used a drop shot and could always catch 12" bass that way usually around the point leading into the cove. The other area I liked was over toward the ski jump area and that little cove. And, if it is summer and windy, you can sort of set under the dam and fish it letting the typical southerly breezes blow over your head.
Not much luck for me toward the north end of the lake where it gets very shallow though it might be fine during the spawn.
Yes, a DD gets pulled out of Marine Creek almost yearly. But, most of the bass in there that are caught seem to be on the small side.

do a google search for 'operation world record bass marine creek' and see if that doesn't perk your curiosity. True. But, it actually wasn't a real attempt at growing a world record bass but a marketing ploy out of the "marketing department," something to that effect. A TPWD biologist discussed this with us and you can search for his comments here on TFF. The "scientists" actually lamented such grandiose labeling. What happened was after fingerling bass were released, small bass with "big" genetics, this at several lakes and certainly not just Marine Creek, they returned after several years to each of these lakes to see the effects of the various lake conditions (food, water conditions, cover, etc.) on the size/health/etc. of the fish. What was discovered, as I recall, was that the bass from little Marine Creek with "stock tank-like properties" had shown a better result (they grew a bit more) than other lakes deemed to be more supportive of fish growth. Marine Creek has little in the way of shad as a base for food, the bass there are more like those found in stock tanks where they feed off bluegills and other smaller fish. All TPWD was trying to do was experiment with different conditions to then compare results. This'd help them understand bass environmental issues better. For certain, just like Weatherford Lake and several other smaller lakes all over Texas, some really big bass come of it. But, no to any real design to create a WR bass. Just working on science, working on general improvements to the blend of bass genetics in Texas. Brad

MC is one of 3 small lakes that are part of OWRB. out of the other 2, one is private.
