How long can the dang thing be sore for? I plopped down back in like the middle of July or so on the arm of a wrought iron chair and somehow managed to mess mine up. I knew instantly something wasn't right, and by the next morning, I could barely stand up or walk. It's gotten better, but it still hurts, and certain chairs, I just can't sit in because it's too much.

I'm thinking being in an office chair all day doesn't help, but that is what it is. Hopefully that'll be changing soon, but we'll see. I really don't feel like I get on my tail bone when I ride, and I really haven't ridden a whole, whole lot since, but it's usually a little more sore after I ride... Surely that's not keeping it messed up. Any ideas?

Ive had the same issue for several years, i sustained the injury by catching for my daughter while sitting on a bucket. It has eased substantially since i retired from that activity but i can irritate it by sitting on a hard surface too long, like bleachers or hard chairs. When it was at its worst a few years back it was as brutal as any pain issue ive been thru. I did a lot of research on coccyx injuries and it seems that its a slow healing problem, some people even have them surgically removed. I never went to the doctor for it, seemed like a stupid problem and i just fought through it.

I would assume the length of pain is dependent upon the actual injury.

Severely bruised or a crack, hmm, could be a long time.

I fell on ice while skiing a few years back, first day!

I hit so hard I could barely move. I was with a lot of friends and an ER doctor.

I didn't do anything for it, except that I lost the rest of the vacation for skiing.

I seem to remember I felt that severe pain for a couple of weeks, and then it began to subside, back to normal in a month or so.

Had this injury when I was 14. Took 16 months before it healed fully. Walked funny for weeks but the soreness didn't subside completely for over a year.

All I can suggest is buy a donut to sit on to avoid direct pressure on it. If you somehow managed to damage some nerves when it happened, the pain may never go away. It was not my tailbone, but the lower portion of my bottom that was injured when I kept slipping and falling on a pyramid-shaped rock. That was over 12 years ago and it still hurts.

Update - So I've been off my bike for nearly 3 weeks, and while it still hurts, it's not nearly like it was. The dang pews at church are the absolute worst though. I guess there must've been something about the way I sit on my bike, that it wasn't a fan of and kept messing it up.

I signed up for a triathlon around the end of May so I think I can put off riding for a few more weeks and focus on running. I haven't ran since I did this same tri last year, so I've got some work to do.

Good luck on your recovery. Going through injury, too. Stinks when it limits your exercise. It's hard enough to get motivated to get out there. We don't need this stuff in our way. GL
