I used 2 1/2 inch gulp minnows on Belton and caught 4 fish on gulp for every one on live shiners. I let it just sit there like dead sticking and have had great results. Small baits are the preferred size for crappie.

Hey Beltonbill, I will be down that way in a couple of days...if you got a fishing spot, I am game to bring my poles...unfortunately, I threw the gulp products away already, but I got plenty of tackle, and stand ready to supply you with shiners and or some of my baits, in exchange for a spot to fish...if we got to drop a boat, I will spring for gas and food as well. Let me know...I am certain my dad would appreciate a fresh mess of crappie for dinner! Just let me know...

It's not working in the south I used it up north and got fish so don't know and I try it all the time and can't get hits so ya not for Texas best of luck ps or I am bad it may be that

Very strange. I have caught every kind of fish you can think of with the Gulp baits and never leave without them just so that I have some of the oil to dip my baits in. On several occasions, me and Red Snappa have tested the 1" Gulp minnows along side rods with live minnows with two results: more fish per bait and more bites with Gulp. In winter, I like to tip a chartreuse and blue feather jig with the 1" chartreuse minnow. Spring and summer I like to use a slip bobber and 32 oz jig with no barbs.

Every person should fish what they have confidence in, and I would say it's a least worth a try. I will not even use worms anymore for bluegills and red ear, 1" Gulp only. Make sure you use lightest tackle possible for the bait you're using but be prepared to have big bass and catfish hit your bait - have a net!

Another vote for the 1 inch Gulp minnow. Gets a LOT more bites than the bigger Gulp minnows. They are money for sunfish, trout and crappie. I fish them with a 1/16 teardrop drop shot rig with a size 6, 8 or 10 Owner mosquito hook, depending on the quarry. Use a high viz 4-8 lb. line and thread the bait on the hook like a jig. You can work the bait as slow as you want with this setup. 1/16 is the ideal size for the dock shooting technique and will also cast for distance. If you want to vertically fish bushes and trees, use the skinny cylinder weights and nose hook the bait with no barb exposed.
