It's a very dangerous lake to run if u don't know where your going. In many areas you run the shoreline as there are stumps in the middle of the lake and of course no boat lanes. You'll hear lots of talk about Kickapoo, best area on the whole lake, but also the most treacherous place to get to.

Google "lake Palestine stump map" and it will give an idea of running lanes. If decide to fish Kickapoo then put in at Kickapoo.

If you want to fish up north (Kickapoo/neches) then just put in up there and idle to where you want to go. That is going to be your safest bet but it will require you to commit to that end of the lake all day. (which isn't a bad thing) As to fishing tips - throw whatever you have confidence in and stay in 5' or less of water. You'll catch fish.
